On Sunday, the Minister of Information of South Sudan announced that a light aircraft, transporting oil workers to the state of Unity, crashed. There were seven people on board, including two crew members. Lightning Aviation, which had a contract for the transportation of workers, assessed the incident as a tragedy. Currently, an investigation is underway to determine the causes of the crash.
"This is a tragic event. We deeply regret this loss," the minister emphasized. South Sudan is one of the largest oil producers in Africa, and aviation services are a common means of transporting workers to the site of extraction. Nevertheless, safety in aviation and infrastructure in South Sudan remains insufficiently developed. Similar incidents in the past have pointed to the need for improved safety measures in aviation in the region.
