The commander of the Ugandan army stated on Tuesday that his country has deployed special forces in the capital of South Sudan, Juba, "to ensure safety," in light of the heightened tensions between President Salva Kiir and his first vice-president Riek Machar, which raises the risk of renewed civil war.
"We, in the Ugandan people's army, recognize only one president of South Sudan, and that is President Salva Kiir," announced the commander of the Ugandan army, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
"Two days ago, our special forces units entered Juba for its safety," he continued in a series of posts on the Twitter platform, adding: "Any hostile action against us will be considered as a declaration of war against Uganda."
